Overview of health
challenges
According to a recent report by USAID, Malawi is a high-burden malaria country with an incidence rate of 332 cases annually per every 1,000 people. There is also a heavy burden of disease evidenced by high levels of child and adulthood mortality rates and high prevalence of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS and other tropical diseases.
The Ministry of Health, WHO and the CDC are actively working in Malawi to address these issues, the objectives of which Rotary Family Health Days supports, as the needs continue to grow.
History
Rotary Family Health Days took place for the first time ever in Malawi in 2023. With a new partnership opportunity with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the program launched in March, 2023.
