Overview of health
challenges
Despite its vast natural resources, the country grapples with a fragile healthcare system, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to basic healthcare services, especially in remote and conflict-affected regions. Infectious diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS remain widespread, while outbreaks of diseases such as Ebola pose significant public health threats. Malnutrition is a persistent concern, particularly among children, leading to high rates of stunted growth. Maternal and child mortality rates are among the highest in the world, partly due to limited access to quality maternal and child healthcare.
