Overview of health
challenges

Zambia faces a double disease burden. There is high prevalence of communicable diseases including HIV/ Aids, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, diarrhoea and intestinal worms as well as rising incidence rates of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cancer and chronic respiratory disease. Poor sanitation, malnutrition, lack of education and infrastructure are some of key factors that leads to a poor healthcare system.

History

Rotary Family Health Days were launched in Zambia on World Malaria Day in April 2022. Thousands of people received free preventive care and treatment. With a new partnership opportunity with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a plan is underway to roll out additional health days in this region soon.
